Self Care Isn't Vanity, It's Sanity

July 6, 2018 Ann Braden

Self care isn't vanity. It's sanity. And self care varies from person to person - it can be a bath or going to the gym or vegging out with your friends or partner or getting a manicure or eating something healthy.

There's no wrong way - but just take the time to take care of you!

Self-Care isn't Selfish

June 28, 2018 Ann Braden

Self-Care isn't Selfish. In order to take care of others, you need to take care of yourself first. I find that taking just ten minutes for yourself can make all the difference in the world.

  • Meditate
  • Listen to your favorite podcast
  • Take a walk around your neighborhood
  • Watch a funny youtube video
  • Put on a Cinnamon Honey Face Mask
    1 tablespoon raw honey
    1 teaspoon cinnamon

Mix together and put on your face for 10-15 minutes and rinse off
  • Dance to your favorite song or sing
  • Do some streches
  • Go to bed early
  • Sleep in a little extra

These are just a few ideas to make you feel better and to take care of yourself- because remember self care is health care.

Ingredient Spotlight: Rose

February 11, 2018 Ann Braden

True confession? I never liked anything rose-scented until I began studying aromatherapy. I resisted, but rose finally won me over. It has a gently persuasive way with skin, is balancing and moisturizing, works well in acne blends and helps skin regenerate and heal. It is especially helpful for damaged, mature and aging skin which is why I now use rose otto and rose hydrosol in blends for both face and body.

Look deep into nature

February 8, 2018 Ann Braden

“Look deep into nature & you will understand everything better” - Albert Einstein

Connecting with nature can help transform a bad day into a good day. When it’s been hard, what helps me a lot is going for a walk. If I can get to a more secluded area the better - it always gives me the perspective that I need to recharge and feel better.

Ingredient Spotlight: Aloe

February 6, 2018 Ann Braden

I love using Aloe in our products, especially our Aloe Chamomile Moisturizing Cream. This wonderful plant originated in Africa but is found in most tropical and subtropical regions of the world. The juice from the plant is fantastic for first aid for burns, rough or irritated skin, and also wounds. And also a moisturizer that firms and tones the skin. Be sure that when you're buying Aloe Vera Gel to make sure it has no carrageenan, which is sometimes used as a thickener but it's a possible carcinogen and gastrointestinal irritant. Carrageenan is creepy stuff. Watercolor painting by our own Maggie.

DIY: Soaking Salts

March 30, 2017 Ann Braden

Herbal bathing is a soothing and therapeutic self-care ritual.

When you are immersed in warm water, pores are open and receptive to the healing properties of the herbs in your bath.

You can customize your bath so it’s perfect for what you need that day: to relax, invigorate, soothe tired muscles, soothe cranky skin, etc. Sore muscles? Add plenty of epsom salts. Add fresh or dried herbs or flowers like rose petals, lavender, even rosemary. Make sure to use plants that have not been sprayed or treated with anything you wouldn't want in your bath! Add essential oils for even more botanical benefit. Lavender to relax. Rosemary and spearmint to give you a lift. Eucalyptus and a drop of peppermint to breathe easy. Sandalwood and jasmine for romance. Try your own combinations! What are your favorites?
