Spotlight On: Beeswax

June 6, 2018 Ann Braden

Spotlight On: Beeswax

Rich honey-scented wax is made by bees to build their honeycombs. It is one of the most popular and widely used thickeners in skin care products. It has soothing, healing, and antibiotic properties.

We love to use it in our organic Peppermint Cocoa Lip Balm. #ingredientsmatter #beeswax #lipbalm #organiclipbalm #peppermintcocoalipbalm #lipcare #loveyourlips #organicskincare #organicbeauty #organic #organicingredients #naturally #naturalskincare #greenbeauty #naturalskincare #greenliving #natural  #rootdownriseupgrowlove #loveyourskin #nocreepystuff #becauseweloveyou

Ingredient Spotlight: Calendula

May 2, 2018 Ann Braden

There's so much to love about Calendula! Calendula is a bright cheery plant loved for the medicinal properties of its vibrant orange or yellow flowers. The calendula flower is a skincare powerhouse. It has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. It is gentle enough for all skin types but especially for damaged or irritated skin. The oil made from the petals is also a favorite in infant and child skin care products. You can make your own calendula-infused oil by grinding the dried flowers and steeping them in a carrier oil of your choice.

BTW Calendula is also called marigold but this is NOT the same as the ornamental marigolds of the Tagets genus that you buy at the garden store. If you want to grow this great medicinal plant, make sure the genus is Calendula.

Ingredient Highlight: Rose

May 11, 2017 Ann Braden

Rose flowers are exquisite, fragrant, and healing. They gently nourish, rejuvenate, and balance most skin types which makes it a great toner (we're working on one!). They are lightly astringent but not drying and works magic on aged skin. And they're anti-inflammatory as their calming properties can also help sooth rosacea and eczema. You can use rose petals directly on your skin as a mask or boil for rose water or use the rose oil- it's incredibly versatile.

Ingredient Spotlight: Witch Hazel Extract

April 28, 2017 Ann Braden

Our witch hazel shown here on the far left

Our witch hazel is a double decoction. First soaked in organic grain alcohol for 6-8 weeks, then simmered in pure water.  Unlike the clear drugstore variety, ours is full of color and tannins and goodness! It is used in many cosmetic products for its light astringent and firming properties. It has mild antibacterial properties, making it excellent to treat acne and skin problems.

This rich butter is used for healing damaged or scarred skin, as well as dry skin and rough skin (knees, elbows, and heels). It is also a protective agent in harsh weather. Shea has natural vitamins and fatty acids which makes it super moisturizing and nourishing. It is anti-inflammatory which makes it beneficial for people with acne. It also reduces wrinkles as it softens and strengthens skin to prevent drying and helps the skin’s natural collagen production. This fantastic butter can be used as a face and body moisturizer, a base for home deodorant (like ours!), lip scrub (like ours), skin care, hair care (especially helpful to people with curly hair), and more!

Ingredient Spotlight: Himalayan Pink Salt

April 6, 2017 Ann Braden

Himalayan Pink Salt is renowned as the purest salt available. This is because it comes from the peaks of Himalayan Mountains which were under the sea over 200 million years ago. As the plates moved, it caused evaporation and intense conditions that lead to the formation of the salt crystals. And thus they are protected from pollutants (or most of them). Himalayan Pink Salt is helpful to soothe sore muscles, detoxify the body and skin, and balances pH.

Ingredient Spotlight: Rosemary

March 27, 2017 Ann Braden

This wonderful herb is astringent, antiseptic, and cleansing. It aids circulation, has stimulating properties, and helps bring blood flow to the surface of the skin. Shakespeare famously said, "There's rosemary and that's for remembrance; pray, love, remember." And he was right. It is also a powerful antioxidant and can combat toxins in the body.
